2-for-1 fat quarters at Spoonflower!

It's our favorite time of year at Spoonflower - the 2-for-1 fat quarters sale!  Fat quarters are awesome for making tea towels on the linen-cotton canvas fabric, or for using as the front side of a throw pillow sham or for many, many other things - the sky's the limit!

We use our kids' drawings to make fun, colorful, durable, and beautiful throw pillows in the play room and when ordered during the fat quarters sale, these are so affordable!

It's also perfect timing to start thinking about getting Spoonflower orders in so that you have ample time to stitch up your DIY projects before the holiday crunch time is in full effect.

We don't want to spoil any surprises so we won't say exactly what we'll be making this year, but we always gift Spoonflower to our friends and family and it's such a fun treat to go to our friends' homes and see our pillows and tea towels on display and being put to good use.

We don't get paid to advertise for Spoonflower, so this is coming from our own tried and true experience.  Shop over 600,000 designs (including 60+ of our own designs) on spoonflower.com!

2-for-1 pricing is in effect through November 9!  Check out our ABC Boston tea towel that's sized specifically for fat quarters and available for only $6 and change during the sale!

Roostery - Spoonflower's sister site for those who can't/don't want to sew

Hi everybody,

Wanted to tell you about this really great site that's now part of the Spoonflower family: it's called Roostery.  Roostery links with Spoonflower to sew up items from Spoonflower's fabrics design library, so you can order a set of tea towels, napkins, placemats, pillows, and now - new- bedding items, including shams, sheets, and duvets with any of the half a million designs on Spoonflower.

We'd also like to take a minute to introduce our newest fabric design on Spoonflower, which is modeled after our NYC favorites design (also below), but this time for the Cape.  As you can see below, the design includes Chatham light, a sundae from our favorite ice cream shop, hydrangeas, the iconic fisherman's cottage in Provincetown, the Sagamore Bridge (with only one car crossing it- WHAAT?!), lobster, whale watches, golf, oysters, and more.

We're loving this print, especially as bedding and we love both the NYC fabric and the Cape fabric.  How perfect would this be for your airbnb or Cape retreat?

The bedding is not cheap, but if you sign up for Roostery's email list between now and October 29, you can enter to win a full bedding set in the design of your choice, valued at $600!  Here's the link to enter (we entered as well!):

Of course, you can also order the fabric direct from Spoonflower and in a variety of fabric choices.  We've ordered it in the linen-cotton canvas blend and will be stitching it up for throw pillows soon, so stay tuned for an upcoming post when we get the fabric in our hands.  We can also see this being very cute for baby blankets in the gauze.

And yes, we didn't forget that we promised a Boston design fabric version in this same style- we're thinking the Make Way for Ducklings statue, Old North Church, the Frog Pond, cannolis, chowder, some sports memorabilia... what else?  Let us know!  We'll be working on this and will post when it's in a draft form that's ready to share.

new NYC pillow in the etsy shop!

If you've been following our blog, you'll already know that we submitted a NYC favorites design to a (semi) recent Spoonflower contest that asked for designs showing your love of a city.

Why didn't we do Boston?  Good question.  We're working on that now, so stay tuned.. buuuuut designing something that looks good takes a *lot* of work!

We ordered the fabric and finally sewed up some pillow covers which we absolutely LOVE.

Here's a sneak peek of what's just been added!

Fleece sale at Spoonflower - 10% off!

As summer draws to a close and the kids head back to school, it's natural to start thinking about all the great things about fall: apple picking, hot chocolate, sweatshirts, cozying up with blankets, and more!

Fall is one of our most favorite times of the year and we're happy to announce a new sale over at Spoonflower, where one yard or more of fleece is on sale currently through September 4 (Monday)!

We've designed our signature item, the ABCs of Boston print, on fleece at both the yard and the half-yard sizes and tested these on the fleece available through Spoonflower and trust us: the fleece is super cozy and warm.  The print quality is good and although it's not as saturated and bright as the minky it's still really nice weight and the details print clearly.

Our blankets aren't currently available on the etsy shop, as we're running some trial experiments on what we want the version 2.0 options to look like, but you can purchase the fabric directly on Spoonflower and very easily stitch up your own version to be ready before the cold weather officially hits!  The fleece is sturdy enough that you could do a one-sided blanket, but it's also pretty simple to tack on a complementary backing and make it into something really special.

With the sale, if you opt for the half-yard print (thereby getting two full panels on one yard), you can get two blankets for around $15 each- a total steal(!) and a great gift for baby showers or the newborn in your friend or family circle.

Here's the link to the two panels per yard layout (select fleece from the dropdown menu for fabrics):

Made in America Week!

Since this week has been declared Made in America week, we'd like to take the opportunity to discuss our sourcing and production and to tell you a bit about how our products are made.

Here at Cityette, we are very proud to have everything produced as locally as possible and we work hard to ensure our items are made with the highest quality standards in place.  If we're not sewing things ourselves, we're using one of the best in the business - Roger Hinds.  Roger has decades of business sewing things for all kinds of people and we've been blessed to meet some other locals using his services throughout the past few years, including someone needing a professional grade Wonder Woman costume, designers for Fashion Week, and just dozens of interesting people with interesting projects that have helped open our eyes to a lot of innovation and creativity that we wouldn't have seen otherwise in Boston!  His office is right in Boston's South End, and so we're happy to be able to say our things are sewn up within Boston city limits (can't get more authentic than that!).  Roger is hands-down amazing at what he does and we appreciate the owners of Windmill Fabrics (RIP) giving us a very kind introduction to him way back all these years ago.

For our fabric-based products, everything is printed via Spoonflower, a North Carolina-based company.  The Spoonflower company is truly amazing and we're thankful and very appreciative of the work that they do to ensure a super high-quality print of our designs onto a wide range of fabrics.  Spoonflower also offers gift wrap and wallpaper and is a favorite of interior designers.  There are thousands of designers on the site and hundreds of thousands of designs and we couldn't more highly recommend the site and its services.

For our print-based products (stationery and posters), we use Shutterfly, also a US-based company that's well known for its quality, even among professional photographers.

We're glad to be able to do things in-person whenever possible and to work with people and companies we know and trust because that means our products are going to be consistent and of amazing quality.

If you have any questions please don't hesitate to reach out!  We're always happy to answer questions or help consult you on your creative endeavors.

Happy Made in America Week to you!

Spoonflower fabric sale 15% all fabric 1+ yards!

So, this ends up being bad timing for us because we just purchased and received 3+ yards of fabric at full price while in the back of our minds thinking there hadn't been a Spoonflower sale in a while...

BUT...

Wanted to let everyone else know that there is currently 15% off 1 yard or more at Spoonflower through Monday, June 12.  We've already had one (now three as of June 9!) person take advantage of getting our designs at a discount:) see screenshot below.

Our fabric designs can be viewed here https://www.spoonflower.com/profiles/cityette and there are literally thousands of other designers with totally amazing designs for any style fabric or project you can imagine - wallpaper and gift wrap too!

and in case you're curious what we just bought when we did our most recent Spoonflower order, we ordered the NYC new fabric (LOVE!) and the two per yard ABC Boston baby blankets on the minky and on the Kona cotton (to make a quilt).  We also ordered one of Gabriella's face designs that she hand drew to make some throw pillows for the couch in the kid's play space area.  Stay tuned for a post on what those will look like.  Our little designer is on a roll!

When we get our Spoonflower orders and open them, we're always so excited to see in person how things turned out but we're also sometimes a bit sad about realizing how maybe what we ordered would look better on a different fabric or we get an idea for something else we could make.  The NYC fabric would make a really cute baby blanket on the organic cotton knit!  We're in overload fabric mode right now and need to focus on making things with what we have currently in inventory, but we're passing along the idea if someone else wants to beat us to the punch and make their own - go for it!!

Also, we noticed how Spoonflower recently sorted the fabric options to purchase by type - woven, knit, performance.  SO helpful!

Have fun out there, creatives!

50 sales at Etsy (!!!)

So, we've been on Etsy quite some time and maybe we should probably have surpassed the 50-sale mark some time ago, but nevertheless, we are celebrating having made 50 sales on Etsy - to (lovable) internet strangers!  Honestly, we're so elated and thankful to all who have helped us and supported us along the way.  Happy to keep on going!  We see you, 100 sales and we're coming for you:)

new NYC Spoonflower fabrics in the shop

We just ordered some of our newly designed New York NYC favorites fabric from Spoonflower and when we get in the fabric, we'll check it to make sure we love it, then post it so that it'll be available for purchase.  In the meantime, we'd love to hear thoughts, as we're always open to revisions (ie what did we leave out?  also: what other cities would you like to see this type of design for?)

We're planning on using the yard of fabric we purchased as a backing for the NYC map pillows and as possibly the front of new NYC-themed pillows as a complement to the NYC map.  These will be listed in the Etsy shop, or you can just order directly from Spoonflower to sew up your own!

Here's a peek at all the items on the fabric, which are then structured as a half-brick design:

This version is version 20-ish from where we initially started.

The fabric idea spawned from our NY card we designed for Etsy (see below).  We were looking to add in Fearless Girl (the statue facing the Wall St. Bull) to the card design, but instead went a new route with fabric instead.

We're happy with the results and look forward to moving along to working on something else!  Stay tuned! xo

Here's a few of the other versions we had in between this and what we had as the final version:

We ended up submitting this design as part of the Spoonflower cityscapes design challenge that recently ended.  Winners will be announced on the blog June 1 so we'll let you know how well we did in the contest - stay tuned!
